If You Don't Know SpicePuppy, You Don't Know Jack

The very first post ever at SpicePuppy.com was Chris Jackson's Why Doesn't Jack Bauer Ever Go To The Bathroom? on 5/13/2007.

Immediately after it was first indexed by Google's web page spider, it was ranked #1 of 144,000 search results for "why doesn't jack bauer ever go to the bathroom." Then it suddenly dropped from the #1 spot, and even from the first results page. In fact, we couldn't find it at all (we stopped looking after the first 300 results).

Maybe Google was suspicious that the first content page of an unknown site was ranked so well, and wanted some time to check it out. Maybe it was our fault; we later noticed that we forgot to close a <b> tag in the header. While it had no visual impact on the page, it may have been seen as an attempt to cheat the system.

At any rate, the issue has passed, and the page has regained the #1 spot. Of course, now that we've announced this, it's likely that older, more established sites with greater followings and higher PageRanks will try to claim the throne, and that's fine. The difference is that we hit a home run our first time at the plate without trying. We think Jack Bauer would be proud.
